Conference notes

My first 5 pages of my paper i felt were a great start. the ideas i gathered from Professor Archibald combined with my own ideas really gave me a good start. I talked about how much players earn for their schools and how many of them live under the poverty level. I also talked about the money that coaches are paid at these schools. I spoke of alternative ways to pay players without handing them paychecks. One was allowing them to sell their merchandise on sites like Ebay or the ability to participate in local ads if so asked. the ideas that Professor Archibald gave me lead me into a new way of thinking and direction for my paper. I went in thinking he would tell me i need more specifics on the facts i was talking about but he shared much more. One idea i really think will fit well is the recognition aspect of college sports. He made the point that this is not all about money there are other important aspects of this. He also gave me the idea of starting my paper off with a story i told about Alabama head coach Nick Saban to gather attention. Overall his ideas are great and will help me write a better paper

Sources for the 3ResProj

For my research project I found a variety of sources  with different ideas and opinions on the subject. Some of the major sources I have found include ESPN articles, news reports from networks such as CNN, and FOX. The way I started researching was by thinking about the issue I was researching and what were some of the biggest aspects of it. I started looking into the history of my issue and looking into the different views of this problem. I found that early on many people completely disagreed with the argument that college athletes are being exploited. But as college sports has become more popular and TV revenue has been getting increasingly higher for schools many people have changed their minds. I used the advances search methods in google search to narrow my searches to more recent articles on the NCAA and developments with the growing controversy. I am also trying to stay recent so that my facts about revenue and how much athletes pay are all accurate to the times now. All of these things are important for my paper because they give me different ideas for which I can explore and add more depth into my paper. Also it gives me ideas on where I can research more information which obviously help me continue writing. the dates on the articles i am reading for my paper are important so that i keep the facts recent and relevant. If i'm talking about living costs of college student from the 1980s then it would have very little to do with my paper based from 2000 and on

Conference notes

The conference I had with professor Archibald helped me a great deal in discovering new topics for my paper. Beforehand I had the idea of focusing on how academics could be positively affected by paying student because of the fact that many of them are in debt. I thought I could add facts about gpa’s of student athletes in compared to non-student athletes. Dr. Archibald gave me another path in which I can focus upon. He told me to talk about how they could also educate players so they realize how important school is. Also teach them how easy it is for athletes to lose their careers in and instant and a backup is a very important thing to have. So along with actual money being given to the players he said pay them in an education for life so they are prepared for the future. So with all the information I have gathered  I am going to focus on a few things. One is the benefit of paying players in college because they are workers. Two talk about others ways we can pay them so they are better prepared for what they are getting themselves into. Third tie in facts about professional careers in terms of length and after affects into both of the previous topics.

ResProj paper ideas

"He analyzed numbers and put money value on every player"

"money played the role of a motivator."

After reading these quotes from my 2Syn paper what do you think about these topic ideas? Do you understand what I am getting at? Which one sounds best to use for the 3ResProj? Why?

Integrating Sources

example 1
That right there can be confirmed with the statement given by Joe Jackson that said “ Well, Attell was supposed to give the $100,000.”(10) Although the quote confirms the players were supposed to receive money I feel it shines light on something else also. Players back in the those days of baseball were not paid based on their performance.

Example 2

. In the  quote from The Trading Desk  Beane gives insight in how he thinks about the game “he faces a wall covered entirely by a white board and, on it, the names of the several hundred players controlled by the Oakland A's.”(p.6) This quote really shows how Billy Beane really focused on the players not just the numbers in the game.
